Japan's official Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, announced today the latest limited-edition product from the Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN side story manga, 'Cucuruz Doan's Island': the "HG 1/144 Gundam FSD (Equipped with Prototype Long-Range Beam Rifle)", scheduled to be sold in stores starting October 12, 2024.
The RX-78-01［FSD］Gundam FSD is a mobile suit redesigned from the Local Type Gundam. The FSD in its name stands for Full Scale Development, indicating improvements made to various mechanisms and equipment to enhance its basic performance. In addition to armaments such as a beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, a massive weapon called the "Prototype Long-Range Beam Rifle" also appeared in the series, boasting extremely high firepower during the One Year War, though it would become unusable after several shots due to barrel overheating.
The "HG 1/144 Gundam FSD (Equipped with Prototype Long-Range Beam Rifle)" is based on the previously released "HG 1/144 Gundam FSD" kit. It includes a re-release of the out-of-print "Prototype Long-Range Beam Rifle Equipment" kit that once appeared as a supplement in Gundam ACE magazine, featuring a GUNDAM BASE exclusive full-color box design.
The Gundam FSD main unit boasts excellent detail sculpting and articulation, allowing for the recreation of its cool combat poses from the series. In addition to the newly added "Prototype Long-Range Beam Rifle Equipment" from the magazine supplement, the kit also retains the original armaments such as the shoulder cannon, two beam sabers, wrist Gatling gun, and two types of shields. The long-range beam rifle can connect to the shield, which acts as a bipod, to recreate dynamic firing poses.
