“Deadpool & Wolverine,” hailed by many as Marvel’s savior, is making its digital debut as its theatrical run slowly winds down, but the “Merc with a Mouth” and Wolverine’s dynamic duo continues to dominate. According to Variety, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to contend in the 2025 awards season, targeting major accolades including the Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and even the Academy Awards.
The report confirms that “Deadpool & Wolverine” will be submitted for the Golden Globe Awards in the Musical or Comedy category for Best Motion Picture. Ryan Reynolds is slated to contend for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, while, surprisingly, Hugh Jackman will be submitted for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Wolverine.
Furthermore, the film is considered a near-certain nominee for the Golden Globe’s recently introduced Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award. This category aims to recognize the year’s most critically acclaimed and highest-grossing films. Last year, Greta Gerwig’s phenomenal “Barbie” took home the inaugural award, alongside eight other nominations, including Best Motion Picture.
For the Academy Awards, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is also reportedly targeting nominations in technical categories such as Production Design, Sound, and Visual Effects.

Beyond the awards race, rumors are circulating that the Academy is eyeing the “Merc with a Mouth” and Wolverine duo to host next year’s 97th Academy Awards ceremony. However, unlike long-time Academy collaborator Jimmy Kimmel, who reportedly hosts for a nominal fee, securing two major movie stars like Reynolds and Jackman would come with a significant price tag.
Sources emphasize that neither party has declined the offer yet. Reynolds, in particular, is reportedly considering the opportunity to leverage the Oscar stage for his other business ventures, much like his promotional tie-ins during film campaigns.
