PLEX Co., Ltd. of Japan, in collaboration with X-PLUS Co., Ltd., has recently unveiled the painted sample of their latest product from the 'Toho Large Monsters' series of kaiju soft vinyl figures, based on monsters from Toho films. This new item, "Type-3 Kiryu (2002) Heavy Arms EVA Unit-01 Color Scheme Ver.", is part of the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" collaboration project, stemming from the "Godzilla" and "Evangelion" franchises. It is scheduled for release in February 2025.
The Mechagodzilla that appeared in the 2002 film "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" is known in the story as Type-3 Kiryu. This Kiryu was secretly constructed by the Japanese government using the skeletal remains of the original Godzilla, salvaged from Tokyo Bay, as its framework. Its propulsion system is controlled by a "DNA computer" structured from its bone marrow cells, allowing Kiryu to move with biological swiftness, fluidly execute close-quarters combat, and even evade Godzilla's atomic breath. It is also equipped with various armaments, including missiles, Type-0 Railguns, Maser Blades, and the "Type-3 Absolute Zero Cannon".
The "Toho Large Monsters Type-3 Kiryu (2002) Heavy Arms EVA Unit-01 Color Scheme Ver." is a modification of the previously released Heavy Arms Standard Version. The entire unit has been repainted with EVA Unit-01's signature purple, green, yellow, and red color scheme. The entire model features intricate sculpting, realized in a height of approximately 29 cm, showcasing its cool armor design, detailed piping, and mechanical structures. The high-density dorsal fins and tail sculpt are also major highlights.
