As James Gunn and DC Studios' new cinematic universe takes shape, casting for many beloved "Justice League" members remains a hot topic among fans. Recently, Gunn took to Threads to share an update on the production status of the new "Wonder Woman" series, "Paradise Lost."
A prequel to "Wonder Woman," "Paradise Lost" was announced in January 2023 as part of Chapter One of the DC Universe (DCU). The series has been described as a "Game of Thrones"-esque tale, delving into the dark, dramatic, and political intrigue of Themyscira, an all-female society.
On Threads, Gunn revealed that "Paradise Lost" is one of the series whose script drafts he is currently reviewing, though he did not share specific plot details.
Gunn stated, "I just finished notes on the "Superman" script, "Creature Commandos" scripts, and the next round of "Peacemaker" storyboards, and now I need to read some scripts I haven't gotten to yet." He added, "Scripts usually go through many revisions before a project is officially greenlit."
When asked if there had been any script progress on "Paradise Lost" or "Wonder Woman," Gunn simply replied, "Yes."
Gunn had previously mentioned the series' progress in a July update. At the time, he confirmed that "Paradise Lost" was in "active development" but clarified it had not yet been officially greenlit. He further stated that this would not happen until the script was finalized and met with his and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran's satisfaction.
Gunn stated on Threads in July that only greenlit projects are considered "in production":
"Projects currently in production include "Superman," "Supergirl," "Penguin," "Peacemaker," "Lanterns," and some animated projects. However, projects like "Paradise Lost," some known and some unknown, are still in active development — when we have one or more scripts that are satisfactory and ready for filming, it will go into production, and never before then. By the way, no official casting has taken place for any projects that have not yet been greenlit."
As Gunn implied, no actors are currently in talks or have been cast for "Paradise Lost." Furthermore, it remains unknown whether Gal Gadot will continue to portray Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. While Gadot has hinted at the possibility, there are currently no known plans for her to reprise the role. It's worth noting that some actors from the DCEU will return to play the same characters in the DC Universe, so Gadot could potentially still be the DCU's Wonder Woman. However, since "Paradise Lost" is a prequel reportedly set before Wonder Woman's birth, the character may not feature prominently in the series.
