Rising star Sydney Sweeney continues to book major roles, with Lionsgate officially announcing her signing today for the film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller novel, "The Housemaid." Sweeney is set to co-star with "Mamma Mia!" actress Amanda Seyfried.
According to Deadline, the project will be directed by Paul Feig, known for "Spy" and the 2016 "Ghostbusters" reboot. Rebecca Sonnenshine, a writer and producer on "The Boys," is penning the script.

The film’s official Instagram account launched recently, with the director, writer, and both lead stars sharing posts and videos to confirm their involvement in the exciting new thriller.

The original 2022 novel "The Housemaid" spent over a year—75 weeks—on The New York Times Bestseller list. It also achieved a record-breaking 5 billion pages read on Kindle, making it the second most popular book for Kindle’s 10th anniversary, surpassed only by the "Harry Potter" series. The English edition of the novel has sold over 3.6 million copies and has been translated into 40 languages.
The plot follows Sweeney’s character, Millie, a parolee who gets a fresh start as a maid for the wealthy Nina (played by Seyfried) and her husband. However, Millie soon uncovers dark secrets within the family, far more dangerous than her own past.
