Starring Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, the film just barely crossed the box office threshold. However, Sony Pictures is still looking to tap into the potential of the long-running ghost-busting IP.
Recently, while promoting his upcoming film "Saturday Night," "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" director and co-writer Gil Kenan confirmed in an exclusive interview with The Direct that he and his collaborator Jason Reitman are actively discussing the possibility of bringing more "Ghostbusters" stories to the big screen.
"We take the legacy of this franchise very seriously, and we embrace the responsibility and the joy of continuing that tradition," Kenan stated. "We are actively discussing future 'Ghostbusters' big-screen plans, so stay tuned for more news."
Kenan also addressed the recently announced Netflix "Ghostbusters" animated series, which marks the IP's return to animation after many years. Kenan indicated in the interview that "these stories are closely connected to the 'Ghostbusters' franchise we all love, which will be a major highlight for audiences." However, whether this implies a direct narrative link to the film's storyline remains to be seen.
