While interviews with Hollywood stars offer fans unique insights into their favorite films and personalities, not every press junket interaction is a positive experience for those involved.
Norwegian entertainment journalist Kjersti Flaa recently highlighted this by posting a clip from a 2012 press interview for the film "Les Misérables," pointing out that Anne Hathaway was notably brief and cold with her answers. Flaa also recalled how the actress refused her request to answer a question in song.
The moment was particularly awkward as her co-stars, Hugh Jackman and Eddie Redmayne, had both agreed to the playful request. Hathaway, however, declined, responding, "Well, I’m not going to do that, but I welcome you to sing if you want."
Now, 12 years later, it appears Hathaway saw Flaa's recently posted video. Just days after the clip went up, the journalist received an email from Hathaway's publicist, with the actress personally apologizing for the uncomfortable exchange.
"I did get an email yesterday that was forwarded to me from Anne Hathaway's publicist, and I was honestly quite shocked," Flaa said. "I never expected her to reach out. I assumed she would never see the video, but not only did she see it, she did something quite remarkable."
"She wrote me a very long email explaining what she was going through at the time of the interview and apologized for that bad interview," Flaa continued. "And I have to say, I was so touched. I almost get emotional just talking about it because I'm so grateful that she did that."
While Flaa didn't disclose the full contents of the email, she revealed that Hathaway also offered a gesture of goodwill: an invitation for another interview for one of her upcoming films slated for a 2025 release.
"I'm very much looking forward to that interview, Anne," Flaa added.
