The first DCU film, "Superman," set to release in 2025, has unveiled a new visual. Following director James Gunn's previous reveal of the first official look, he recently shared the fresh image across social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
The new image not only showcases David Corenswet's Superman from behind, but also marks the debut of Krypto the Super-Dog, the famous canine companion from DC Comics, in James Gunn's "Superman" film.
Notably, this "Super-Dog" in the image is inspired by James Gunn's own pet dog, Ozu, whom he adopted shortly after beginning to write the "Superman" screenplay. An Oscar-nominated visual effects team then used realistic CGI to transform Ozu, making him appear as the Krypto familiar to DC fans.
Gunn shared that Ozu had no prior human contact before his adoption, leading to some initial chaos. For a period, Ozu was even reluctant to let the Gunn family approach him. This experience sparked an idea in Gunn: "If Ozu had superpowers, how much more trouble would that be?" This thought ultimately led to Ozu's inclusion in the "Superman" script as Krypto.

The DCU film "Superman" is slated for a North American release on July 11, 2025.
