The "John Wick" universe is undoubtedly expanding. Franchise director Chad Stahelski recently confirmed at New York Comic Con (NYCC) that a Japanese anime-style prequel film for the "John Wick" series is actively in development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski revealed at the event that the anime film will focus on the pivotal mission that led John Wick to initially retire from the assassin world and marry:
"It's going to be a fun anime. Unlike the prequels or sequels you might expect from other series, our anime design goes beyond your imagination. We just want to have fun, we want to have fun in the 'John Wick' world. But we closed the book on the main story with 'John Wick: Chapter 4,' so let's revisit the beginning from a different perspective... Through anime, we can get even crazier and more outlandish."

As the director of all four "John Wick" films, Stahelski has gradually become the "keeper" of this universe. He joked that he has seen too many other series undergo "interesting changes," and therefore understands the importance of having a "keeper":
"TV series, anime, or spinoffs... We have so many ideas for 'John Wick.' When Keanu (Reeves) and I are in meetings, there are always opinions from other teams. When some people think certain things aren't 'John Wick enough,' I make sure that both Keanu and I agree it is 'John Wick enough.' As more opinions join, having at least one person who can ensure the spirit of the series remains becomes increasingly important."
The "John Wick" franchise is set to release several upcoming projects, including the Ana de Armas-led spinoff film "Ballerina", the High Table prequel series "The Continental: From the World of John Wick", and a spinoff film centered on Donnie Yen's blind assassin Caine.
