Accompanying the famous quote from Samwise Gamgee, the most loyal hero of "The Lord of the Rings," Taiwanese toy design company Asmus Toys announced in the early hours of today (30th) the reopening of its "The Lord of the Rings" product line, declaring its return to Middle-earth. Simultaneously, in collaboration with American collectible brand SIDESHOW, they unveiled the latest "Gollum" and "Sméagol" 1/6 scale collectible figures! Shipping is expected to begin from December 2024 to February 2025, with a suggested retail price of US$130 per figure.
Gollum was originally a Hobbit named Sméagol. To obtain the shining "One Ring," he murdered his fishing companion, Déagol. From that point on, Sméagol could never turn back; his body and mind were continuously twisted by the power of the Ring. Sméagol became cunning, cowardly, and even developed a dual personality, "Gollum." Gollum first appeared in the original novel "The Hobbit" published in 1937, and in the films, he is a recurring character throughout "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." In the end, he bit off Frodo's finger, seized the Ring, and perished forever with his beloved "Precious" in the flames of Mount Doom.
Compared to the Gollum / Sméagol figures we previously introduced, this new version features significant updates to the head sculpts. Gollum displays an extremely cunning expression, while Sméagol looks like a child who has done something wrong and is pleading for forgiveness, conveying intense sadness and confusion, which I personally find quite outstanding. The sparse white hair on the head and the detailed skin texture are also meticulously sculpted, and with the movable eye design, they can exhibit even richer variations.
The body meticulously recreates the emaciated appearance, with bendable arms and legs featuring seamless articulation, providing a more integrated presentation of muscle lines. Accessories include a pair of bendable legs also with seamless treatment, multiple interchangeable hands, the Elven food Lembas bread, and his precious One Ring (the accessory content is identical for both Gollum and Sméagol).
