Sony Shuts Down "Concord" Developer Firewalk Studios, Citing "Lessons Learned"

Developed with an investment of $150 million USD, the first-person shooter "Concord" was originally slated for an August 23, 2024 release. However, due to overwhelmingly negative internal feedback and anticipated poor sales performance, the game was ultimately canceled before launch, and its operations were shut down within a month of its intended release, preventing its sale on PlayStation 5 and PC.

This cancellation was not the final chapter for "Concord." According to PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst, Firewalk Studios, the developer behind the shooter, was shut down alongside mobile game studio Neon Koi. A Bloomberg report indicated that the closure of these two studios resulted in approximately 210 employees losing their jobs.

Regarding the closure of Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, Hermen Hulst stated that "Concord"'s failure to meet Sony Interactive Entertainment's standards led to a thoughtful decision by Sony to permanently delist the game and close both studios. He emphasized that Sony would "learn lessons" from "Concord"'s experience to enhance its "live service game" capabilities and foster future growth.
