Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd. Gashapon toy brand today officially announced a new transforming robot-themed gashapon product, "Capsule Guardian". The first wave of products is scheduled for release in March 2025.
The product concept and transformation mechanism of "Capsule Guardian" were co-designed by PLEX Corporation. The product's appearance looks just like the common, tightly sealed capsule shells found in gashapon machines. In reality, the capsule shell contains a precise transformation mechanism. After disassembling the upper and and lower capsule shells, they can each transform into the upper and lower body respectively. Once assembled, they form a robot approximately 15 cm tall with 21 points of articulation.
This series has virtually no backstory. There are only near-future style robots that transform from gashapon capsules into Guardian forms, and the mysterious "Weapon Beasts" that fight alongside them. Beyond that, everything is left blank. The reasons for transformation, the names of the Guardians, the characters' backgrounds... all are left to the players' imagination.
The first wave of products will feature three different Capsule Guardians: "Dog Guardian," "Eagle Guardian," and "Shark Guardian," as well as three different Weapon Beasts: "Weapon Dog," "Weapon Eagle," and "Weapon Shark." In addition to sharing the same transformation mechanism and articulation design, the three Capsule Guardians differ in body color, markings, and head sculpt. The Weapon Beasts can each transform into a variety of armaments such as firearms, dual blades, shields, and spears for the Guardians to equip!
