Regardless of whether "Star Wars" fans enjoyed Disney's "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy," Lucasfilm is reportedly heading back to the big screen to develop a brand-new "Star Wars" trilogy. However, media outlets are offering conflicting reports on whether these films will continue the "Skywalker Saga" as Episodes 10, 11, and 12, or forge an entirely new story.
According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the upcoming trilogy will be a collaboration between "X-Men" franchise writer-producer Simon Kinberg (pictured below) and Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy. This report suggested that the films would indeed continue the "Skywalker Saga," developing content for Episodes 10, 11, and 12. 
However, another outlet, Variety, reported that Lucasfilm's new "Star Wars" trilogy, also involving Simon Kinberg, would continue the story set after the 2019 film "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." Variety's report even stated that Lucasfilm had already refuted Deadline's initial claim, indicating that the trilogy would not serve as Episodes 10, 11, and 12 following the nine-film "Skywalker Saga."
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter also indicated that the new "Star Wars" trilogy would not only diverge from Deadline's suggestion of continuing the "Skywalker Saga" but would also introduce entirely new characters and storylines. While not ruling out the return of some familiar faces, the core narrative would move beyond the original films' established plot.
