Major Blunder: "Wicked" Movie Toy Packaging Accidentally Links to Adult Website; Mattel Issues Apology

The highly anticipated film "Wicked," starring pop superstar Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is set to hit theaters next week, generating significant buzz among fans. However, the movie's merchandise recently made headlines for an embarrassing gaffe.

Starting last weekend, numerous North American consumers began sharing online that while the "Wicked" merchandise itself was fine, the packaging contained a rather awkward error. The official website listed on the back of the toy packaging was mistakenly printed as the adult website wicked.com, instead of Universal Pictures' official movie site, WickedMovie.com!

Following the incident, Mattel, the manufacturer of the "Wicked" toys, issued an urgent apology. In a press statement, the company acknowledged the printing error on the doll packaging, noting that the doll series is primarily sold in the United States. Mattel stated, "We sincerely apologize for this unfortunate error and are taking swift action to remedy it."

Mattel did not confirm whether all unsold products had been pulled from shelves. However, according to foreign media reports, as of Monday morning, some "Wicked" doll series items appeared to be unavailable through online retailers. The company also advised consumers who had already purchased the dolls to discard the packaging or obscure the incorrect link, and to contact Mattel customer service for further information.

"Wicked" will be released in two parts. Part One is scheduled to premiere on November 22, with Part Two expected in Fall 2025.
