In addition to upcoming projects like Daniel Craig's "Queer" and Andrew Garfield's "We Live in Time," independent studio A24 has announced a new Japanese samurai action film, "Bushido," also set in feudal Japan, following the success of "Shōgun."
A24's new samurai film, "Bushido," will mark the feature directorial debut of Japanese-American filmmaker Hiro Murai (pictured below). Murai is widely recognized for his work as an executive producer on the Emmy-winning series "The Bear" and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and as a director for the hit series "Atlanta." The screenplay for "Bushido" is being penned by Henry Dunham, known for directing "The Standoff at Sparrow Creek."
While specific plot details and the exact budget for the A24-backed Japanese samurai action film remain under wraps, the studio has been venturing into higher-budget productions in recent years. Their 2024 release, "Civil War," was reportedly their most expensive production to date, with a budget of $50 million. Industry observers suggest that "Bushido," with its feudal Japan setting, could command a budget that approaches or even surpasses that of "Civil War."
