While Marvel recently unveiled the animated series "Eyes of Wakanda" in its 2025 preview, the future of Wakanda on the big screen remains uncertain, with Marvel yet to announce any plans for a third "Black Panther" film.
However, Denzel Washington, who is soon to appear in "Gladiator II," has preemptively revealed that director Ryan Coogler is already developing the script for "Black Panther 3" — and that Washington himself will have a role in it!
During a recent appearance on an Australian program, Washington was asked about his future career plans. He admitted that he hopes to collaborate only with the best directors in this next phase of his career, stating, "I don't know how many more films I'll make, probably not many. I hope to do things I've never done before."
He continued, "I played 'Othello' when I was 22, and now at 70, I'm going to play it again. After that, I'll play Hannibal. Then, Steve McQueen (director of '12 Years a Slave') and I are discussing a film. After that, Ryan Coogler's next 'Black Panther' film script will have a role for me."
In fact, before Chadwick Boseman's passing in 2020, he spoke in a 2019 address about Denzel Washington being a benefactor who sponsored his acting school tuition before he broke into the industry. Boseman famously stated, "There is no 'Black Panther' without Denzel Washington."
During the 2019 American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award ceremony, Boseman honored Washington, saying, "My entire cast stands on your shoulders. The daily battles you fought for culture on set, the thousands of territories you won, and the many sacrifices you made throughout your career, along with the principles you upheld without compromise, left us a blueprint."
