Even as James Gunn's first DCU film, "Superman," gears up for its July 2025 release, some fans still hold a fondness for the DCEU era, particularly Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman.
However, James Gunn, who often shares and clarifies information on the social media platform Threads, recently revealed that during screen tests for "Superman," the suit worn by Henry Cavill in the 2013 film "Man of Steel" was accidentally destroyed—and completely torn to shreds.
Of course, Gunn himself wasn't the one who damaged the iconic suit. Recently, a fan on Threads asked the director if actor Tom Brittney had really, as rumored, broken Henry Cavill's Superman costume during his audition. Gunn responded:
"Yes, Tom did break the suit," Gunn confirmed, before adding, "Then when it was David Corenswet’s turn, because he’s so damn big, the suit was just ripped to shreds. But Tom is one of my favorite actors, for the record. He's incredibly talented."
As fans know, David Corenswet was ultimately cast in the lead role for Gunn's "Superman." In addition to the previously revealed costume photo and on-set details, the look of Krypto the Superdog was also unveiled in October 2024. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
