Lucasfilm previously made a surprise announcement that the "Star Wars" franchise would return to the big screen with a new trilogy. While it remains unclear if this will continue the "Skywalker Saga" as Episodes 10, 11, and 12, or introduce an entirely new narrative, the news certainly generated significant buzz among "Star Wars" fans.
However, with fans still in the dark about plot details, Disney announced today that it has pulled the second film in the new "Star Wars" trilogy from its original December 18, 2026 release date. The slot will now be filled by the sixth "Ice Age" film, which was recently announced at Brazil's D23 Expo.
According to previous reports, the upcoming "Star Wars" trilogy is being developed by "X-Men" writer and producer Simon Kinberg, who is collaborating with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The only remaining "Star Wars" film slot that has not been altered is currently set for December 17, 2027. As for other "Star Wars" films slated for 2026, "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is still on track for a May 22, 2026 release.
