After a long wait, Netflix's hit sci-fi horror series "Stranger Things" was announced to return in November 2024. Following confirmations of its Season 5 premiere, story timeline, and episode titles, recent reports from foreign media outlets reveal that Netflix has reclassified the show from TV-14 to the more adult-oriented TV-MA, meaning content unsuitable for viewers under 17.
Previously, "Stranger Things" seasons one through four were all rated TV-14. This new classification by Netflix for the final season could signal a more mature tone and open up greater narrative possibilities as the series concludes its nine-year run.
While the development of "Stranger Things" Season 5 faced significant delays due to the pandemic and industry strikes, the show's period setting remains firmly in the 1980s. Specifically, the story will pick up in the autumn of 1987, just one year after the events of Season 4, dispelling earlier fan speculation that the final season would jump into the early 1990s.
In addition to the returning original cast, Linda Hamilton, known for her iconic role as Sarah Connor in "The Terminator," has also been confirmed to join the cast of "Stranger Things" Season 5. Her specific role, however, has yet to be announced.
