Kenelephant (ケンエレファント), a Japanese toy company, operating the sofvi brand Chuku Kobo, has announced a brand new high-quality sofvi series titled "Tezuka Osamu Characters Sofvi Collection" (手塚治虫キャラクターズ Sofvi Collection), featuring various characters from the works of Japan's God of Manga, Osamu Tezuka. In addition to the debut "Ambassador Astro Boy," the series will also release the "Rock (Makube Rokuro)" sofvi figure, a character who appears across multiple works. The suggested retail price is 12,100 JPY, with pre-orders opening on the official website on December 5, 2024, and an estimated release in January 2025!
Rock (ロック) is a recurring character in Tezuka-sensei's works, sometimes appearing under the name Makube Rokuro. In Tezuka-sensei's worldview, he is akin to an "actor." Unlike Astro Boy's characteristic of a "kind and innocent boy," Rock sometimes plays a hero and sometimes a villain, freely taking on different roles without being limited by genre, showcasing the diversity of Tezuka's manga world.
This "Rock (Makube Rokuro)" sofvi figure stands approximately 23 cm tall and is also developed under the supervision of Tezuka Productions. Referencing Rock's appearance in multiple works, the figure is crafted in a pose wearing a suit and sunglasses, with his hands clasped behind his back. The sculpting captures the wrinkles and textures of the suit, along with the delicate quality of Tezuka-sensei's illustrations. The paint application utilizes both glossy and matte finishes to enhance visual richness and faithfully recreates the classic yellow-green tie. The packaging design is also inspired by manga magazines, featuring selected panels from Tezuka-sensei's works and accented with fluorescent yellow stickers, distinct from Astro Boy's red, elevating the collectible's quality even further!
