With casting now underway for HBO's "Harry Potter" reboot series, many fans are wondering which actors will be chosen to step into the iconic roles made famous on the big screen.
While HBO has yet to officially announce its choices for the central trio of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, Ralph Fiennes, who famously played the villainous Lord Voldemort in the original film series, has a specific actor in mind for his former role. During a recent appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," Fiennes singled out "Oppenheimer" Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy to take on the mantle of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
The idea of Murphy playing Voldemort has been a popular fan-casting choice circulating online for some time. When asked about the possibility, Fiennes was enthusiastic in his response, stating that Murphy is a magnificent actor and that it's a great suggestion he would fully support.
As for when the "Harry Potter" reboot will premiere, media outlets speculate a release window of late 2026 or 2027 on Max. Furthermore, in a recent interview with Deadline, JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games for Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed that the upcoming show is planned as a "ten-year journey"—in other words, the highly anticipated reboot could run for as many as ten seasons.
"As we look ahead to 2026 and 2027, you'll see us kicking off a ten-year journey for the 'Harry Potter' series, which we're incredibly excited about," Perrette said. "I would argue it's probably going to be the most-watched piece of content!"
