The potential return of Johnny Depp to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has been a persistent topic of speculation among audiences and media for years. While Depp's involvement remains uncertain, Disney Studios has been actively developing two "Pirates of the Caribbean" spin-off projects for quite some time, both reportedly centered on new female characters. Should Depp eventually return, his screen time would likely be limited.

Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, has previously indicated that the studio has not entirely ruled out Depp's return. Similarly, series producer Jerry Bruckheimer (pictured right above) has frequently expressed his desire to keep Depp involved. However, Depp has publicly stated his disillusionment with Disney for severing ties before his defamation trial concluded, with some media outlets reporting that he has already rejected previous comeback offers from Disney.
According to a new report from Variety magazine, one of the two "Pirates of the Caribbean" projects currently in development has a role that could accommodate Depp's return as Captain Jack Sparrow. This would, however, hinge on Depp and Disney reaching a reconciliation, though Disney has not yet approached Depp regarding the matter.

One of the upcoming "Pirates" films is set to star Margot Robbie, with Christina Hodson, known for writing "The Flash," penning the script. The other project is being co-written by Ted Elliott, a co-writer on the original "Pirates" series, and Craig Mazin, creator of the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl." Variety's report did not specify which of these two projects has the potential opening for Jack Sparrow.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman also reported in March that Disney was indeed interested in inviting Depp back, but only for a minor, supporting role.
