HBO's "Harry Potter" Series: More Casting Rumors Emerge for Hagrid, McGonagall, Dumbledore; Director Says New Cast Will Be Younger

The highly anticipated HBO reboot series of "Harry Potter" has recently been buzzing with numerous casting rumors. Among them, British actor Paapa Essiedu is reportedly a candidate for Professor Snape, while Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance is said to be eyed as the potential fourth actor to portray Dumbledore in screen history. Now, Deadline has revealed more actors Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly considering for the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, in addition to Rylance, Mark Strong is also in contention for the role of Dumbledore. Brett Goldstein (pictured far left), who has gained significant recognition recently for his role in "Ted Lasso," is a potential candidate for Hagrid.

For the role of Hogwarts Deputy Headmistress Professor McGonagall, previously played by the late Maggie Smith, current rumored contenders include Sharon Horgan (pictured right) and Rachel Weisz, both of whom are 54 years old.

The series, slated for a 2026 premiere, has Francesca Gardiner, co-writer of "His Dark Materials," serving as showrunner. She recently revealed that over 32,000 children have submitted audition tapes for the lead roles of Hermione, Harry, and Ron. Mark Mylod, director of "The Menu" and helming this series, stated that the show's character ages will remain faithful to the original books, meaning many professor and parent roles will be younger than their counterparts in the previous film adaptations.
