With "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" hitting theaters soon, the film not only brings back Jim Carrey, but doubles down on him. This time, Carrey returns to play a dual role, portraying both Dr. Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. However, during the promotional tour for "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," Carrey famously announced his intention to retire. His subsequent return for the sequel has naturally sparked curiosity about what prompted his change of heart.

Two years ago, Carrey jokingly stated that he would only consider a comeback if an angel delivered a script written in "golden ink." Recently, at the "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" premiere in London, reporters pressed Carrey on whether the sequel was indeed that "golden ink" script. He responded, "I probably exaggerated a bit, ha ha ha. The reason I came back to this franchise is... first, I get to play a super genius, even though I'm not very convincing, ha ha. And then... I'm a shopaholic, I need money. I'll be honest with you."
