Warner Bros. Pictures' animation division announced today that a new feature film for their classic animated IP, "Tom and Jerry," is in development. The writing team has also been set, with actress Rashida Jones (known for "The Office"), "Toy Story 4" co-writer Will McCormack, and Michael Govier, director of the Oscar-winning animated short "If Anything Happens I Love You," confirmed to co-write the script.

Jones, McCormack, and Govier are all familiar with each other and have previously collaborated. Jones and McCormack were both co-story writers for "Toy Story 4" and are co-founders of the production company Le Train Train. Govier and McCormack, meanwhile, co-wrote and co-directed "If Anything Happens I Love You." This new film marks the latest feature in the franchise since the 2021 live-action/animated hybrid "Tom and Jerry" movie. However, whether this installment will be fully animated or another live-action/animation hybrid was not specified in Deadline's exclusive report.
