Beyond conceiving the iconic "James Bond" spy novel series, author Ian Fleming also penned the beloved children's book "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." This whimsical tale was first adapted into a musical film in 1968 by James Bond franchise producer Albert R. Broccoli, with a screenplay crafted by "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" author Roald Dahl. Now, 56 years later, the classic is set for a brand-new cinematic reimagining.

Eon Productions, the company behind the James Bond films, confirmed on December 12 that a new "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" adaptation is officially in development, with Amazon MGM Studios also joining the production. Last week, Amazon further announced that Matthew Warchus, who directed 2022's "Matilda: The Musical," will helm the project. The screenplay will be written by Enda Walsh, known for co-writing the film "Hunger."
Given Warchus and Walsh's extensive backgrounds in theater and musical productions, the new film is expected to maintain the musical format, a decision influenced by Eon and Amazon's appreciation for their past creative endeavors.
