Last summer's live-action "Barbie" film was a global phenomenon, raking in over $1.4 billion at the box office and earning multiple awards nominations, making it undeniably Warner Bros. Pictures' most successful release of the year. Naturally, this success sparked curiosity about the possibility of a sequel.

Regarding a follow-up, director-writer Greta Gerwig and her husband, co-writer Noah Baumbach, had previously told media outlets last year that the first film had nearly exhausted all their ideas, with no groundwork laid for a sequel. Even star and producer Margot Robbie reportedly felt that a standalone film was a good outcome, without forcing a continuation.

However, it appears Gerwig and Baumbach have had a change of heart. According to an exclusive report today from The Hollywood Reporter, the couple has already begun brainstorming "Barbie 2" and has pitched their ideas to Warner Bros. The project is currently in very early development stages, with no significant progress yet. Following the report, Warner Bros. officially denied the news, issuing a statement that called the report unreliable. However, this denial could simply be a standard response to avoid publicly discussing an unconfirmed project, much like how actors often deny their involvement in major blockbusters before official announcements.
