CD Projekt Red officially unveiled the first gameplay trailer for the fourth installment in "The Witcher" series at The Game Awards 2024. The trailer confirmed that Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, will take on the role of protagonist in the first game of this new trilogy.

While Ciri has been confirmed as the lead for "The Witcher 4," the highly anticipated trailer, which has garnered global attention, also featured a voice that sounded suspiciously like Geralt, stating, "Time for a new saga. See you on the path." This immediately sparked speculation among fans: Does this mean Geralt could still appear in future installments?
According to IGN, CD Projekt confirmed that the "familiar voice" in the trailer indeed belongs to Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt. The protagonist of the original "The Witcher" trilogy is set to appear in the upcoming "The Witcher 4." However, CD Projekt further elaborated:
"Geralt will indeed be in the game, but we cannot reveal more details at this time. Please await our official announcements."

Players familiar with "The Witcher" trilogy know that Geralt eventually settles down in a vineyard, enjoying his retirement. Addressing how Geralt might be integrated into "The Witcher 4," background story designers Cian Maher and Marcin Batylda offered insights during an interview with IGN, drawing from the original novels:
"More precisely, Geralt should still be in this series for a long time," Marcin explained. He added that the ending of the prequel novel, "The Witcher: Season of Storms," actually takes place before Geralt attends "that banquet" they previously mentioned.
"At the end of the novel, the timeline is set in 1373, which is 101 years after the events of 'The Witcher 3.' The location is a place called 'Magpie Forest,' and it describes a white-haired witcher hunting a monster."
"Although the book does not explicitly mention the witcher's name, the described behaviors and appearance, especially the white hair, strongly suggest Geralt. Therefore, I believe we can expect Geralt to continue to exist in this world in some form, and as for how he will appear, we will have to wait and see! At the very least, I don't think Geralt will simply vanish from this world."

Interestingly, CD Projekt had previously maintained a high level of secrecy regarding "The Witcher 4" details to avoid revealing too much. However, Doug Cockle had once prematurely disclosed that while Geralt would not be the protagonist in the new game, he would still be present, leading to a "warning" from CD Projekt's official channels.
