Will Gwent Return in 'The Witcher 4'? CDPR Director's Cryptic Answer Hints at Possibility

While it's been confirmed that Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri, will be the protagonist of the fourth major installment in "The Witcher" series—with its story drawing inspiration from the prequel novel "Season of Storms"—CD Projekt Red has yet to release many other details. However, the development team may have just dropped a major hint that the fan-favorite card game, Gwent, could be making a return.

During a recent interview with "Easy Allies," CD Projekt Red Game Director Sebastian Kalemba and Executive Producer Gosia Mitręga were asked if Gwent would appear in the next "Witcher" game. Although the two creators didn't give a direct yes or no, their response was quite telling:

"We love Gwent, and we are always listening to the community—we have to say, we love the community, it's great, and I don't think anyone will be disappointed," said Mitręga. "It's part of the experience, right?"

"We love Gwent too," Kalemba added.

The popularity of Gwent was so immense that shortly after the release of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," CD Projekt Red launched the free-to-play standalone title "Gwent: The Witcher Card Game" on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Furthermore, earlier this December, Hachette Boardgames UK and No Loading Games announced a collaboration to release a physical version of Gwent. The set will feature over 400 cards and a playmat, and is slated for release by the end of 2025.
