The highly anticipated "Spider-Man 4" is once again at the center of a new wave of rumors regarding its production. This morning, American film critic and entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider reported on his personal blog, The Insneider, that "Daredevil," who made a cameo in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" three years ago, is set to return. There's also a possibility that fellow street-level hero "The Punisher" could make an appearance, though Sneider notes the chances are lower and he's skeptical about it happening.
Additionally, "Knull," the Symbiote God, who recently made a brief appearance in "Venom: The Last Dance," was previously rumored to immediately follow up with a return in "Spider-Man 4." Sneider now confirms that symbiotes have indeed been written into the "Spider-Man 4" script, but he did not specify whether Knull himself would be involved.

Sneider also claims that the long-awaited supervillain "Mephisto" is part of the "Spider-Man 4" cast, with Sacha Baron Cohen, who has been rumored for the role for some time, set to portray him. However, another source for Sneider questioned Cohen's involvement, noting that Cohen has a top-secret Universal Pictures film slated for release next year, which would require significant promotional time and could conflict with the "Spider-Man 4" filming schedule. Therefore, Sneider remains uncertain if Cohen will ultimately participate.

Speaking of scheduling conflicts, Zendaya, who is expected to return, will reportedly see her screentime significantly reduced. The total filming period for "Spider-Man 4" is scheduled from June to October next year. However, Zendaya is set to film "Euphoria" Season 3 from June to July next year, and "Dune: Messiah" (Dune 3) is planned to shoot from September next year through January the following year. This leaves her with potentially only August available to film "Spider-Man 4."

Based on the current clues, the plot of "Spider-Man 4" appears to be a compromise between the visions of Marvel and Sony Pictures. Marvel initially aimed to bring the story back to a street-level focus, while Sony desired a grander multiverse scope. Now, with Daredevil representing the street-level, and Mephisto and symbiotes representing the multiverse, it seems both parties' visions are being incorporated.
"Spider-Man 4" will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), taking over from Jon Watts, who helmed the first three installments. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the screenwriting duo from the previous films, are once again penning the script. The film is currently slated for release in North America on July 24, 2026.
