The highly anticipated new "Superman" film, part of the completely rebooted DC Universe, finally dropped its first official trailer tonight. Written, produced, and directed by James Gunn, the visionary behind the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy and co-CEO of DC Studios, the movie is slated for a July 11 release in North American theaters next year.

This iteration of "Superman" is not a traditional origin story. Instead, it's set in a world where superheroes were already active long before Superman's debut. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are already acquainted, and Lex Luthor's animosity towards Superman is already established, meaning the film won't recount the Man of Steel's rise from the very beginning.

The cast for the new "Superman" film includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, a member of The Authority. Also joining are Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Sara Sampaio as Luthor's assistant Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Earth father Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Earth mother Martha Kent, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
