Disney has a proven track record of reimagining classic tales from the antagonist's perspective, successfully turning "Sleeping Beauty" into the "Maleficent" film series and giving "101 Dalmatians" villain Cruella de Vil her own standalone feature, "Cruella." Now, it appears the studio is doubling down on this strategy, planning a slate of new films centered on beloved Disney villains.
According to acclaimed entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman, who exclusively revealed the news on his Patreon page, Disney is actively developing multiple "fairy tale villain" movies. This initiative is reportedly designed to build hype for the upcoming Villains Land themed area, set to open at Magic Kingdom Park within Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

Richtman's report lists several iconic antagonists slated for their own spinoffs, including the Queen of Hearts from "Alice in Wonderland," Mother Gothel from "Tangled," and the Snow Queen, the original inspiration for Elsa in the "Frozen" franchise. Additionally, Angelina Jolie has already confirmed her return for "Maleficent 3."
To further bolster this villain-centric push, Disney is even retooling projects not originally conceived as villain films. Richtman previously reported that the live-action "Hercules" movie, produced by the Russo Brothers and directed by Guy Ritchie, was quietly shifted to focus on Hades, the Greek god of the Underworld. He has now confirmed that this change was specifically made to align with the broader Villains Land promotional strategy.
