Walt Disney Pictures has a substantial slate of live-action remakes in various stages of development, and now another classic is reportedly joining the queue. Six years after making a splash with their critically acclaimed debut feature, "The Peanut Butter Falcon," directing duo Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz recently revealed a new project in the works with Disney. While promoting their second directorial effort, "Los Frikis," in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nilson and Schwartz disclosed that Disney is in discussions with them for an upcoming remake.

The project Disney is looking to entrust to them is "Treasure Island," Robert Louis Stevenson's iconic adventure novel, which Hollywood hasn't revisited for a while. Disney previously adapted the literary classic into a live-action film in 1950 and later reimagined it as the 2002 animated feature "Treasure Planet."
Schwartz described their envisioned version as one that will delve deeply into themes of family, brotherhood, and the outsider's perspective. He added that it would carry a strong "Australian surf" vibe and distinctly showcase their unique creative style.
