Last February, Disney officially announced that the "Toy Story" franchise would be getting a fifth installment. The news was met with mixed reactions from fans globally; many felt the series had already delivered a perfect conclusion with its third film, while others believed Disney was simply trying to milk the franchise for its remaining value. However, comedian Tim Allen (pictured left below), who voices Buzz Lightyear, is highly confident in the upcoming film and doesn't believe it's merely a product churned out for profit.
Allen, who has already read the script and begun recording for "Toy Story 5," told Collider in a recent interview that the story is "very smart." He added that while no one expects a fifth film in such a franchise, he genuinely doesn't believe it's a cash grab. He stated that he's sure they want it to succeed, but that's not why they're making it.

Allen continued, saying that if Pixar hadn't come up with an exceptional script, they wouldn't have pursued the project or called him and Tom Hanks. He emphasized that the script is "really smart." Allen also updated on his recording progress, noting he's already recorded up to the third act of the film and expects to be in the studio five more times. When asked about his favorite installment in the series, he admitted that the first film's status is "unshakeable," but the farewell scene between Woody and Buzz in the fourth film particularly moved him.
"Toy Story 5" will be co-directed by Andrew Stanton, director of the "Finding Nemo" franchise, and McKenna Harris, co-writer of "Luca." It is slated for a North American release on June 19, 2026.
