To be honest, I don't even know why I pre-ordered this mecha-girl figure; I had completely forgotten about it. It wasn't until I received the shipping notification that I remembered, and so it quietly arrived at my doorstep along with my other pre-ordered items.
This isn't my first seamless mecha-girl from DAMTOYS; strictly speaking, it's my third from this manufacturer. Upon receiving it, aside from the substantial weight and presence, I personally don't feel it justifies its NT$2,900 price tag.
The accessories are sparse: just one light-up saw blade and light-up foot effects. The rest is even less than what's included in their own "Thunderbolt Task Force" series. You get four interchangeable face plates plus one with articulated eyeballs, three pairs of interchangeable hands besides the ones on the main body, one weapon, and one display stand. Yes, that's what NT$2,900 gets you.
Setting aside the price and the contents, the overall quality is quite good. The paint application is exquisite with fine details, the armor has a weighty feel from the metal parts, and the joints are solid and articulated. The elbow joints are even tighter than usual, which is a welcome improvement.
As for the interchangeable face plates, besides one with closed eyes and an open-mouthed expression, I honestly can't tell the difference between the other two. The eyes and mouth shapes look nearly identical.
The photoshoot in my studio took less than five minutes. When I came out, my wife even asked, "How are you done already? I just took a shower."
Unless you have a deep love for this character, I strongly recommend thinking twice before purchasing. After all, a price tag of nearly NT$2,900 is not a small amount of money.
Below is a simple unboxing and review.
▼[Unboxing] Nuclear Gold Reconstruction Punishing: Gray Raven Nanami: Pulse - Radiant Star 1/9 Seamless Mecha-Girl
▼Compared to the Thunderbolt Task Force series, the packaging is really small. The outer box is about half the size of the Little Red Riding Hood figure's box and is wrapped in a thin, clear plastic film.
▼The front of the box features "Nanami: Pulse" Radiant Star, 1/9 Scale.
▼Back of the box.
▼The face on the box art is actually slightly different from the final product. Perhaps due to the mouth shape, you can notice some subtle differences.
▼Six batteries are included: two for the weapon, and two for each leg.
▼The box is made of thick, sturdy material.
▼Famous quote: "I am the strongest!"
▼The picture shows all the contents. Pretty simple, right?
▼Main body, four interchangeable face plates, three pairs of interchangeable hands.
▼One display stand with parts, one eyeball adjustment tool, and one weapon with a light-up feature.
▼The only weapon accessory in this set.
▼A storage base that I really like.
▼When fully opened, the base can store all of the figure's accessories.
▼A super large storage space.
▼Storage compartment on the side of the base.
▼The bottom of the base is printed with the "Punishing: Gray Raven" logo.
▼The four included interchangeable face plates. I really can't see the difference between the two circled on the right—they're just too similar!!
▼Three pairs of interchangeable hands, not including the ones on the figure.
▼The classic eyeball adjustment tool.
▼The one and only weapon: a saw blade that lights up, but not too brightly.
▼After opening the cover, you need to install two of the included button cell batteries. Make sure not to reverse the polarity.
▼The light is on. Even when lit, it doesn't fully illuminate the blade; the tip seems to be unlit.
▼The face plate with adjustable eyeballs. I feel the mouth sculpt is a bit off and differs from the box art.
▼The eyeballs can be adjusted from the back.
▼Use the eyeball adjustment tool to change the range of motion of the eyes.
▼Eyeball adjustment complete. That mouth sculpt is really a bit of a failure; perhaps it would have been better if the corners of the mouth weren't turned up.
▼The light-up effect on the feet.
▼The lower leg armor uses metal parts, giving the entire armor a substantial weight. The armor features a gradient paint job, and the overall application is very detailed, with small details clearly defined.
▼The paint quality on the weapon is also quite good. In addition to the fine details, the font style is spot-on.
▼The hair is made of a soft plastic material with embedded parts. That thin strand is very fragile, so be extremely careful not to pull it out or it might break.
▼The knee joints are tight. Because they are firm enough, they can support the weight of the metal lower leg armor without buckling.
▼The outfit is also made of soft plastic. The sides are open, offering a tantalizing glimpse of the chest. The outfit also has many painted details, and the quality is excellent with no paint bleeding.
▼A close-up shot with the aperture set to F2.8.
▼The arms can be raised horizontally. Since the body is a seamless design, please refer to the instruction manual for proper rotation methods when posing to avoid tragic accidents, such as the seamless skin tearing.
▼Because the outfit is made of a soft material this time, it can be opened to reveal the chest details.
▼Solid knee joints.
▼The face plate wasn't fully pressed in, so there's a gap XD. The back of the outfit has the character "七" (Seven) detailed on it.
▼A final reminder: absolutely do not pull or twist that thin, soft plastic strand.
That concludes this simple unboxing review. I'll say it again: if you love this character, you can consider adding this to your collection. If not, you can definitely save your money. Compared to the Thunderbolt Task Force series, I would actually recommend that line instead, as it offers much more playability. Below are some simple studio shots—the photoshoot that was done in five minutes~
