The blind assassin Caine, who debuted in "John Wick: Chapter 4," immediately left audiences wanting more, with many feeling the character's backstory had spinoff potential. The film's post-credits scene even laid the groundwork, teasing that Akira, the concierge of the Osaka Continental Hotel, is seeking revenge for her father's death. As expected, Lionsgate confirmed last year that a Caine spinoff film is in the works, with Donnie Yen set to reprise his starring role.
However, it seems Yen isn't content with just returning to act. While promoting his new film "Misjudgment" in a recent interview with Collider, he admitted that he also wants to direct the project. "I think the fans and the studio, they want this to happen," Yen said. "We'll see. That's all I can tell you, but yeah, we're in discussion. We're in deep discussion. So let's see how it goes."

Yen also shared that he already has some initial ideas for the story. "I have some ideas of how I want to see the story go, but I don't want to say too much because I'm not sure if I have the right to say those things," he explained. "But they [Lionsgate] are very committed, and they're very happy that I'm on board." He also emphasized that series director Chad Stahelski must be involved. "He better be! He has to be! I want to make sure it's fun. My goal is to make a film that will not disappoint the fans and the general audience."
"Misjudgment" was also directed by and stars Yen, making the possibility of him helming the Caine spinoff highly likely. He believes his latest film fully demonstrates his style and capabilities as a director.
