Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed director behind "Barbie," has reportedly been at odds with Netflix over the distribution model for her upcoming "The Chronicles of Narnia" reboot. Since last year, rumors have circulated about a conflict regarding the film's release strategy. Gerwig has consistently advocated for a traditional theatrical window, allowing the film an extended run on the big screen. However, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has historically been reluctant to grant extensive theatrical releases for the streamer's original films, often limiting them to brief, week-long runs. This disagreement led to prolonged negotiations, with some reports even suggesting Gerwig considered stepping down from the project.

Now, an exclusive report from Puck News indicates that both parties have finally reached a consensus. The new "Chronicles of Narnia" film is set to premiere exclusively in 1,000 IMAX theaters for three to four weeks, with a guaranteed minimum of two weeks, beginning November 26, 2026. IMAX has confirmed the two-week commitment, with the potential for an extended run based on box office performance. Following its exclusive theatrical window, the film will then officially debut on Netflix during the Christmas season of the same year. This special arrangement, however, is reportedly a one-off for "The Chronicles of Narnia" and will not extend to other Netflix productions.
Neither Netflix nor Gerwig has yet announced the cast for the reboot, nor have they revealed which of C.S. Lewis's original novels will be adapted for the first installment. Production is reportedly slated to begin in July of this year.
