Lee Isaac Chung, the Korean-American director who earned an Oscar nomination for "Minari," has successfully transitioned into mainstream filmmaking. His recent work includes directing episodes for "The Mandalorian" Season 3 and "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," as well as helming "Twisters," the sequel to "Twister," which grossed $370 million worldwide. Chung is now set to continue his foray into genre films, directing the time-traveling sci-fi epic "The Traveler" for Amblin Entertainment.

According to Deadline, "The Traveler" is an adaptation of Joseph Eckert's novel of the same name. While currently in the very early stages of development with plot details under wraps, sources indicate the film will blend the intimate family drama seen in Chung's "Minari" with grand sci-fi adventure elements. The story centers on Scott Tread, a 47-year-old biotechnician who embarks on a series of involuntary time jumps.
"The Traveler" has been in development in Hollywood for some time, with MGM previously attempting to develop it in 2019. The latest draft of the screenplay was penned by Justin Rhodes, co-writer of "Terminator: Dark Fate."
