Benedict Cumberbatch, currently on a press tour for his new film "The Thing With Feathers," recently sat down for an interview with Variety, where he also offered fans an update on the future of Doctor Strange.
Cumberbatch confirmed that Doctor Strange will not appear in "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." "Is that a spoiler? Oh well," he quipped. He clarified that his absence from the fifth installment is simply because his character isn't part of that particular story. Instead, he is slated to return for "Avengers: Secret Wars," teasing a substantial and crucial role in the sixth film that will be key to future plot developments.

Regarding a potential third solo "Doctor Strange" film, Cumberbatch stated that he and Marvel Studios are actively discussing the next storyline. He also revealed that Marvel has consulted him on potential writer-director candidates for the third installment. Cumberbatch believes Doctor Strange is a complex and contradictory character with significant untapped potential for further exploration.
Cumberbatch also reflected on his early days in the MCU, admitting his performance as Doctor Strange initially felt somewhat stiff. It wasn't until he observed Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland's dynamic in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" that he understood the need for a more relaxed approach to such roles. "I learned a lot from their relaxed and improvisational performances," he shared. "It's hard to do when you have such a massive crew around you, but staying relaxed is incredibly important."

Beyond Doctor Strange, many fans are eagerly anticipating Cumberbatch's return for a new season of "Sherlock." When asked what it would take to convince him to reprise the iconic role, Cumberbatch jokingly replied, "A lot of money." He then offered a more serious explanation: "A new season would have to be better than what came before, making audiences and myself crave more of the story. People always want more, but I think the premise for continuing is that we have to deliver our absolute best."
