After the box office success of "Alien: Romulus" last summer, which revitalized the franchise, 20th Century Studios quickly announced a sequel to the standalone film was in development. Director Fede Alvarez is already developing new story ideas, and stars Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are expected to reprise their roles. However, new reports suggest a familiar face might also be making a return.

Prominent film journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his Patreon page that the next "Alien" film is reportedly considering bringing back original star Sigourney Weaver to reprise her iconic role as Ripley, with de-aging visual effects to restore her youthful appearance.

Many online users initially speculated that Richtman's "next Alien film" referred to the "Romulus" sequel. Given that "Romulus" is set between the events of the first two "Alien" movies, any direct continuation would likely maintain a similar timeline, making CG de-aging understandable. However, explaining Ripley's return would be challenging, as her character is typically in stasis or deceased between installments.

Richtman later issued a clarification, stating that the film he was referring to is not "Romulus 2" but rather a separate, untitled spin-off project. He added that the concept is somewhat akin to director Neill Blomkamp's canceled "Alien 5," a project Sigourney Weaver was previously attached to.
