The third film uniting "Godzilla" and "Kong" tapped Grant Sputore, director of "I Am Mother" (pictured below), last year to take over from Adam Wingard, who helmed the previous two installments. Now, news has finally broken regarding the first new cast member set to join the project. Deadline exclusively reported that Kaitlyn Dever, an actress who has garnered significant critical acclaim in recent years, is in negotiations for the lead role, marking her first foray into a major theatrical blockbuster.

A former child star, Dever has delivered standout performances across both film and television in recent years. She notably starred in the critically acclaimed "Booksmart" and "No One Will Save You." Her work in the Netflix limited series "Unbelievable" earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Television Movie. She is also set to portray Abby in the highly anticipated second season of HBO's video game adaptation, "The Last of Us."

Dave Callaham, who co-wrote the 2014 "Godzilla," returns to pen the script for the upcoming film, which is slated for release on March 26, 2027.
