The beloved 90s comedy "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," starring Lisa Kudrow, who rose to fame as Phoebe in "Friends," and Mira Sorvino, an Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress in "Mighty Aphrodite," remains a fan favorite. Despite a lukewarm box office reception upon its initial release, the film has steadily amassed a significant fanbase over the years, cementing its status as a cult classic. Its enduring popularity even led to a prequel TV movie and a stage musical adaptation.

Given its prequel and musical versions, a sequel isn't a surprising development. Early last year, Sorvino revealed that she and Kudrow were in talks with the studio to return as producers for a sequel, with original screenwriter Robin Schiff also penning the script. Now, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has provided an update: Kudrow and Sorvino are in final negotiations to reprise their starring roles, with signatures expected soon.

Additionally, Tim Federle, the showrunner behind the "High School Musical" series, "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series," has been confirmed as the sequel's director. Production is slated to begin this June.
