Kaiju One (壹工房)
Established in 2017, "Kaiju One" is a Hong Kong-based toy company specializing in designing various licensed and original sofubi (soft vinyl) toys. The creative concept is rooted in the daily life of his pet dog, and also incorporates elements from his childhood love for American and Japanese animation. Integrating these influences, the Cookie Dog character is intentionally designed to be flat, aiming to present a three-dimensional work with the feel of a two-dimensional illustration.
Born in 1977, the Japanese best-selling chocolate cookie sticker series "Bikkuriman" (also known as "Devil vs. Angel") has been popular for 48 years. Co-created by illustrators Minoru Yonezawa and Satoshi Hyodo, its unique designs, full of charm and personality, have profoundly influenced countless creators. Renowned illustrator Yūsuke Nakamura, in an interview published in the March 2015 issue of "Illustration" magazine, respectfully referred to them as his mentors. Even today, many creators pay homage to "Bikkuriman" by creating various Q-version shiny stickers.
This latest work by COOKIE DOGGGGG draws inspiration from "Bikkuriman" chocolates as a tribute, reinterpreting the classic Mazinger Z design to create a flat and adorable style, reminiscent of a chocolate cookie. Each package includes one random shiny sticker (three designs to collect), and continues Kaiju One's consistent design ingenuity by incorporating a hidden mechanism in Mazinger Z's head, cleverly designing a detachable Pilder, adding fun and collector's value.
