Longtime collaborators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have two upcoming films with Netflix. The first is the crime thriller "RIP," written and directed by Joe Carnahan ("The A-Team"), which has already wrapped filming and is expected to be released this year. The second, "Animals," directed by Affleck, is about to begin production but is heading into filming with a major casting change.

According to Deadline, "Animals" is scheduled to begin shooting soon in Los Angeles, but Damon has already exited the project due to a scheduling conflict with Christopher Nolan's new film, "The Odyssey." Affleck had originally planned to shoot "Animals" last year, but the production was delayed to resolve script rights issues, leading him to film "The Accountant 2" first.
Instead of recasting the role, Affleck, who was initially only set to direct, has decided to step in and star himself. Deadline also reports that Gillian Anderson has officially joined the cast, while The InsSneider adds that Steven Yeun is in talks for a role.

"Animals" is produced by Affleck and Damon's Artists Equity banner, alongside Fifth Season and MakeReady. Damon will remain on board as a producer with Affleck. The script, originally penned by Connor McIntyre, was rewritten by Billy Ray ("Captain Phillips"). The film follows a mayoral candidate and his wife who are forced to get their hands dirty to save their kidnapped son while surrounded by enemies from the political world and beyond.
