Paramount Pictures has taken over from Sony Pictures to reboot "The Smurfs" franchise. The new live-action/animated hybrid feature, "The Smurfs Movie," officially unveiled its teaser poster and first trailer today. Directed by Chris Miller, known for the first "Puss in Boots" film, and penned by "Team America: World Police" screenwriter Pam Brady, the film is slated for a July 18 release in North America.
The official synopsis reveals that when Papa Smurf is kidnapped by the nefarious wizard Gargamel and his evil brother, Smurfette leads the Smurfs into the real world on a mission to rescue him. With the help of new friends and Papa Smurf's own brother, Archen, the Smurfs must uncover the key to their destiny and save the universe.

The extensive voice cast also features Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Alex Winter, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman. Rihanna, who voices Smurfette, also contributed an original song to the film.
