Fans have been clamoring for a sequel to "Edge of Tomorrow," but progress has remained stagnant. Whenever the original film's key creatives are asked about the follow-up, they consistently mention that a script is in the works, yet significant advancement has been elusive. Star Emily Blunt has even expressed frustration over Tom Cruise's demanding schedule, which she says leaves no room for him to return for a sequel. However, it now appears that before a direct sequel can materialize, the "Edge of Tomorrow" universe might expand in a different direction.

Renowned film journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his personal Patreon page that a Japanese animated film based on "Edge of Tomorrow" is currently in development. Notably, this animated project is said to be a direct adaptation of the original novel, "All You Need Is Kill," rather than an animated version of the live-action movie. Richtman did not specify which production teams are involved, suggesting it could be an entirely Japanese production or a cross-cultural co-production, similar to "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim."
Richtman has since deleted his report without providing an explanation, though other media outlets had already seen and subsequently reposted his original story.
