"Alien: Romulus," which grossed over $300 million worldwide, happily announced a sequel was in the works last year. However, since the announcement, various reports have emerged regarding the sequel's direction. Steve Asbell, President of Production for 20th Century Studios, stated that the sequel would once again star Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson as the on-screen siblings. But other media outlets have indicated that another sequel, not directly continuing the "Romulus" storyline, is also in development.
Furthermore, whenever producer Ridley Scott discusses the next "Alien" film in development, he consistently avoids confirming it as a direct sequel to "Romulus."

Even Michael Pruss, one of the producers of "Romulus," recently gave an ambiguous answer when interviewed by Screen Rant at the Saturn Awards ceremony. He stated, "Ridley and I, and our friends and colleagues, and Fede (Álvarez, director of "Romulus"), are all involved in developing the sequel. We're conceiving another 'Alien' film, which might not be a direct sequel to 'Romulus,' but it's definitely part of the existing franchise."
Pruss also emphasized that they are still in the very early stages of discussion, requiring time to deeply consider which ideas are worth pursuing. Based on the current statements from all parties, the only certainty is that there will be a new "Alien" project, but which storyline it will continue has not yet been decided.
