Known for releasing numerous classic super robots, with "large size" and "articulation" as its key selling points, the "GABM" (GRAND ACTION BIGSIZE MODEL) series from Japanese toy company EVOLUTION TOY is set to release a large-scale articulated figure of one of Go Nagai's classic super robots, "Grendizer," in its original color version, in August 2025! The price will be 62,480 JPY.
The work "UFO Robo Grendizer" (directly translated as Grendizer, formerly known as Goldrake, Grandizer, and referred to as "Giant Spirit God" in Hong Kong) was created by the renowned manga artist Go Nagai, who also created "Mazinger Z" (マジンガーZ), and is the third installment in the Mazinger series.
The story follows the protagonist, Prince Duke Fleed (デューク・フリード) of Planet Fleed (フリード). After his home planet is destroyed by an attack from the Vegan Empire's allied forces, he narrowly escapes and drifts to Earth. He is rescued by Dr. Umon, director of the Space Science Laboratory, who adopts him, and he assumes the alias Daisuke Umon. Originally intending to live a quiet life, enemies eventually attack Earth. Spurred on by Koji, he finally stops running from his trauma and once again pilots his personal machine, "Grendizer," joining Koji and other allies to confront the enemy, thus beginning the story.
This Grendizer from EVOLUTION TOY's GABM series maintains its impressive 50cm height as a major selling point, truly living up to its "Giant Spirit God" moniker. Its full-body articulated joints provide excellent poseability, and some parts utilize die-cast metal to enhance its premium feel. It includes the transformable "Double Spazer" (ダブルスペイザー), which can combine with Grendizer. For weaponry, it features the standard "Double Harken" (ダブルハーケン). Accessories include additional smaller hand parts and effect parts for launching the Rocket Punch. Furthermore, the eyes are embedded with LED light-up components, which can be illuminated using two LR41 button batteries.
