The "Legally Blonde" prequel series, which was surprisingly announced last April, has officially revealed its young Elle Woods after a year of development and casting. Newcomer Lexi Minetree will portray the character during her high school years, prior to Reese Witherspoon's iconic portrayal of Elle entering Harvard Law School. Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer on the series, personally announced the casting on Instagram today.

To announce the casting, Witherspoon recorded a video capturing the moment she delivered the exciting news to Minetree, who joyfully embraced her. Witherspoon also called Minetree's mother on the spot to share the good news, telling her that when she saw Minetree's audition tape, she thought they were the same person, implying that Minetree's appearance and performance strongly resembled her own.

The "Legally Blonde" prequel series is executive produced by "Gossip Girl" showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Laura Kittrell, a producer on "Insecure," and Caroline Dries, a producer on "The Vampire Diaries," serve as co-creators. The story will center on Elle Woods' high school life. Meanwhile, "Legally Blonde 3," which Witherspoon is set to star in and has been in development for several years, is still in the planning stages.
