The upcoming "Clayface" film, based on the eponymous Batman villain, was previously announced for a September 11, 2026 release. Now, reports indicate that two directors are vying for the helming duties. According to Deadline, DC Studios is set to hear pitches from potential directors next week, with Jeff Wadlow, director of "Kick-Ass 2," and James Watkins, who helmed "Speak No Evil," reportedly among those in contention.
However, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) disputes Wadlow's involvement, claiming instead that "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" director J.A. Bayona is among the filmmakers DC is eyeing.

The "Clayface" project originally stemmed from a pitch by "Doctor Sleep" director Mike Flanagan. DC Studios was reportedly so impressed with Flanagan's script that they greenlit the film for development. While it was widely assumed Flanagan would also direct, Deadline reports that Flanagan never intended to direct, having already committed to helm the sequel to "The Exorcist: Believer," leaving him unavailable for "Clayface."
